ATLANTA — As many airlines struggled financially over the past few years, the cleanliness of their planes suffered, according to The New York Times.
Delta Air Lines, for example, had changed its once-a-month schedule for deep cleaning plane interiors to once every 15 to 18 months, the story noted.
Many airlines now outsource their plane cleaning, because, in the words of one analyst, "The problem is they've made so many cuts. ... It's another part of the airline business that goes to the lowest bidder."
Delta has now upgraded its cleaning, firing two contractors and getting back to the once-a-month deep cleaning schedule.
